su: cannot set user id: Resource temporarily unavailable

If you are trying to switch to an user like oracle or orasid or sidadm and you get the following error:

su: cannot set user id: Resource temporarily unavailable

It means that you don’t have enough number of processes available for that user. The solution for this is to increase the limits for that specific user in this file: /etc/security/limits.conf (you can simply add the lines below):

oracle hard nproc 2047
oracle soft nproc 16384

This can also be a solution for the follwoing problem:

ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation:fork failed with status: 11
ORA-27301: OS failure message: Resource temporarily unavailable
ORA-27302: failure occurred at: skgpspawn3
Process W000 died, see its trace file

Process startup failed, error stack:
Errors in file /oracle/SID/saptrace/diag/rdbms/sid/SID/trace/SID_psp0_10288.trc:
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation:fork failed with status: 11
